Daytime Smokey Eyes...Super Easy!

by Casey B on 3/01/2014

Hey Everyone!

Today I have done a look that is so easy even the newest makeup addict can achieve it! All you need is:

  • Light Brown/Nude Eyeshadow (optional)
  • Medium Brown Eyeshadow
  • Dark Brown or Black Eyeshadow
  • A light white frosty (or matte!) Eyeshadow
  • Black Eyeliner
  • Mascara
This look is so easy because you are using shades that all blend well together to create a nice subtle wash of colour from lighter to dark. And because you are using medium and neutral browns, this look is so versatile! It can be worn to work, school, even a night out with your friends or on a date.

This look can be achieved in about five minutes so its even good for people on the go or in a rush. Its perfect for people of any colour however it will really make blue and green eyes pop!

For a step-by-step tutorial on how to get this look, follow the instructions below while watching me do it by viewing the tutorial.

  1. Follow your normal daily face routine! Since we are applying makeup to the eyes, its important to start with a flawless face! So grab your concealer, foundation, bronzer, powder whatever you use! :)
  2. Now onto the eyes! I like to start with a primer. Some think its an unimportant step however if you want to get the most out of your makeup, it is a must!
  3. Next, I swept medium brown eyeshadow onto the entire lid. This can be matte or have some shimmer. Whatever you desire :)
  4. Then I like to blend out the edges of the medium brown so its not so harsh and looks smokey. To do this, grab a light brown or nude eyeshadow that is very close to your skin tone. If you don't have one, you can also use your pressed powder for your face. (Tip: This is a must have shade. It will be a blessing whenever you do smokey eyes!)
  5. To add smokiness to this look and create drama and depth to the eyes, pick up a dark brown shade. Using a little bit at a time, apply it to the outer corner edge of your eyes. Also, sweep this shade along For daytime looks, I like to stay away from using black eyeshadow, unless your using a very little bit just to add a bit of shading.
  6. To really make this look stand out and pop, add a light eyeshadow directly under your brows. This can be a frosty white, or a matte cream or white. For daytime wear, i'd stay away from frosty whites as they can be really noticeable under the natural light. Id stick to more matte cream, peach colours that are similar to your skin tone.
  7. To create a nice smokiness, use a Kohl eyeliner pencil (Kohl is usually the most black and creamy pencils) and line just the outer half of your lash line. Gently smudge it using your finger. Add more liner and repeat. Continue to do this until you reach the desired smokiness finishing with one last line of liner. Do not smudge the last line. You can see how this created a nice smokey effect.
  8. Time for mascara! Apply two coats. Refrain from putting it on your lower lash line.
